Lakeview RV Resort is nestled in the foothills of the Tennessee highlands, near Virginia and western North Carolina. Whether you’re camping with us for a few days or an entire season, chances are, you may want to visit some local attractions. And while we’re proud of our campground amenities, we hope you get a chance to take in some sightseeing and experience the Appalachian mountain culture. Fortunately, the area’s rich history and natural beauty provide more chances for exploration and adventure than you could fit into a lifetime of vacations.

Our family-friendly campground is located in Bluff City, TN, which is part of the Tri-Cities area consisting of Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport and their suburbs. Tri-Cities received an All-American City Award from the National Civic League in 1999. This region is bursting with opportunities for boating, water skiing, snow skiing, white water rafting, fishing, jogging, and hiking. Pick your favorites or try them all!

Day Trips

You’ll be surprised how much fun Bluff City and the Tri-Cities Area packs into a half-hour radius around the campground. What’s your vacation pleasure? You’ll find hunting and shooting sports, archery, off-roading, hiking, fishing, golf, country music, Tennessee barbecue, flea-markets & more within a short drive of Lakeview RV park.

If you feel like venturing a bit farther from the campground, it’s only about an hour and a half drive to Asheville, NC, home of the historic Biltmore Estate. We’re also less than 2 hours from Great Smoky Mountain National Park, which is a great place for hiking and scenic drives, especially when fall foliage is on full display.

History

Not only is the area around Bluff City rich in beauty, it’s steeped in history from the very earliest pioneering of our country. Remember Davy Crockett? You’re walking in his moccasin prints. Civil War buffs often stop at Lakeview RV Resort on their journey to explore the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area historic sites. And the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site is about an hour from the campground.

Music fans love to visit Bristol, TN, the largest city near the campground. Known as the “Birthplace of Country Music”, it’s home to a museum where you can learn about the history of country music. If you happen to be camping at Lakeview in September, don’t miss the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion music festival.

Adventure

If you feel a need for speed, Bristol is also home to world-famous racetrack Bristol Motor Speedway (NASCAR) and the Bristol Dragway (NHRA Thunder Nationals). Get in on the action yourself with ziplines and UTV tours at Off the Grid Mountain Adventures. For a more laid-back adventure, you can hike the Appalachian Trail, just half an hour from the campground.

Make time to explore the Virginia Creeper Trail, a 34-mile recreational multi-use trail. You can enter the trail at the Virginia Creeper Trail Welcome Center, about half an hour from the campground, in Abingdon, VA. This rail-to-trail is perfect for year-round adventures like hiking, horseback riding, biking, walking, running, fishing, geocaching and even cross-country skiing. It even intersects the Appalachian Trail in a few places. With several cafes and ice cream stops along the trail, it’s a great place to spend a few hours exploring. You can even rent a bike from a local bike shop and then take a shuttle to a trail access point.
